ICOE 2010 closing bets the investment in R&D and cost reduction as key to the future of marine energy

ICOE 2010 conference focuses in Bilbao the Global Know-How on Marine Energy
• Opened this morning at the BEC, in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Innovation of the Basque Government, Bernabé Unda, the CEO of Iberdrola Renovables and the responsibles for marine energy at EVE and Tecnalia.
• Bernabé Unda has stressed that the commitment of the Basque Country is to become a leadership reference in the development of wave energy and that this development will take into account other uses of the sea such as fishing, navigation, recreation and sports.
• Until Friday, BEC will host over 600 delegates, international expers and leading companies in the various forms of exploitation of ocean energy.

Bilbao becomes the world’s ocean energy capital as the city hosts ICOE 2010
• More than 600 delegates, international experts and top companies will be at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre from 6th to 8th October
• As part of Wave Week, there will be a surfing “Expression Session” at Sopelana, which will act as a meeting point for technologists and surfers to share ideas and reflections about the sea and its energy.
• The sea has vast potential for generating electricity, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and creating a powerful new industry.
• The Basque Country is leading the way with some pioneering initiatives and is home to some of the leading companies in capturing energy from the sea.
